Allen Brings Tested Expertise to CCC Powerlifting
July 1, 2013
This fall Coffeyville Community College will launch a Powerlifting program for students. Students from all over Kansas will begin training for powerlifting competitions. What is powerlifting you might ask? Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of an individual making three attempts at a maximal weight in three lifts: the squat, deadlift and bench press.
Students will compete in small venues locally at first eventually moving to larger contest in Iowa and Missouri if they are able to compete at a higher level. Mark Allen will lead the Powerlifting program and coach more than 25 students on the sport.
Allen is no stranger to the weight room as he recently competed and won the top prize at the Missouri’s Strongest Man contest on June 22. Allen competed in Belton, Missouri in a series of Strongman competitions to defeat 11 others in his weight category. Allen is looking forward to coaching his students on the technical aspects of weightlifting but more importantly he wants to give them valuable insight for their futures.
“I am excited to educate students about weightlifting but also to teach them a fundamental work ethic that can carry over to all aspects of their lives,” said Allen.
