CCC Columbus Technical Campus Skills USA Students Medal at State Competition

CCC students who successfully competed in the State Skills USA contest are Curtis Mays, Colton Moyer and Kip Overman, all of Columbus, Kan.
CCC Columbus Technical student Colton Moyer placed first in Carpentry for the Skills USA State Competition. Kip Overman placed third in the Carpentry division as well. In the Automotive high school division, Curtis Mays placed 3rd in Parts Management.
Skills USA State Competition was April 26-27 in Wichita, Kansas. Skill USA is a national non-profit student organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service. Coffeyville Community College, Columbus Technical Campus students competed against technical students from across the state.
“It is very exciting that Colton has proven himself to be the best out of 36 contestants in Carpentry across the state of Kansas. It is a great honor to have Colton represent the state and Coffeyville Community College”, says Kevin Hunt, CCC Construction Technology instructor.
As the Carpentry Kansas State Gold medalist, Colton Moyer will represent the State of Kansas at the 2012 National Leadership and Skills USA Championships in Kansas City, Mo. on June 23rd–28th. At the event, more than 5,600 students will compete in 94 occupational and leadership areas.
“I think it is awesome”, Moyer said. “This summer Kevin (Hunt) and I will practice to get ready for nationals.”
