CCC Rodeo Team Roper Claims Top Prize
April 17, 2012
Coffeyville Community College sophomore Cale Markham won the average in the team roping at the Southwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo hosted April 12-14th at Weatherford, Oklahoma. Markham is a header in the team roping event. He placed second in the first round and first place in the short round to win the average with a time of 16.9 seconds.
Markham is currently ranked second in the region with hopes of going to the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Finals in Casper, Wyoming June 10-16. Only the top three athletes from each event will compete at the National event.
In addition, Markham’s teammates have competed well. Gable Hildebrand won the Fort Scott Rodeo as a header in March of 2012. Hildebrand is currently ranked 7th in the region. Parker Warner has also been competing as a team roper for CCC and is doing well in the 11th place seat in the region.
“We typically see 85-95 team roping teams in the region and only three will be allowed to proceed to the National Finals. Our guys have done a good job, they have won three of the last four rodeos (in team roping) and we have high hopes for the next two rodeos,” said Johnny Weil, CCC Rodeo Coach.
These ropers will be headed to Hays and Guymon for the last two rodeos of the season before they find out who will make the trek to the Finals.
