The Coffeyville Community College (CCC) Rodeo Team ended the regular season with rodeos in Hays, Kan. and Guymon, Okla. Ethan Hill of South Coffeyville, Okla. placed second in the calf roping long round and ended up sixth in the average at Hays. Cale Markham of Vinta, Okla. took seventh in the team roping long round. Gable Hilderbrand of Bartlett, Kan. won the long round in team roping, was fifth in the short round and ended up second in the average.
In Guymon, Markham entered the rodeo in third place in the region in team roping and had 11 ropers that could catch him and move him out of qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo. Despite the pressure, he and Braden Harmon (his partner from Western Oklahoma State College) placed second in both rounds with times of 5.0 and 6.5 seconds and secured their spot at the CNFR. With a CNFR qualification already in place, Hilderbrand went for the regional win, but came up with a no time in the long round. However, his partner and CCC alumni, Levi Wilson of South Coffevyille, Okla. ended up the Central Plains Region Champion Heeler.
“Over the year there were typically over 100 teams entered in the team roping and for Markham and Hilderbrand to both finish in the top three and qualify for the CNFR is impressive,” said CCC Rodeo Coach, Johnny Weil.
