Luis Munoz, shown from a game earlier this season, drove in three runs with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly in the Ravens 11-10 win over Colby in May 5's sub-region win.

The Coffeyville Red Ravens stormed back from an 8-2 deficit in the seventh inning to win 11-10 over Colby in Saturday's opening sub-region tournament game in Liberal, Kan. The Ravens will next play Allen County who shocked tournament host Seward County 15-11 in ten innings. Coffeyville and Allen County will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Liberal. The winner will advance to the sub-region championship game on Monday. The loser of the 1 p.m. game will turn around and play an elimination game at 4 p.m.

For Coffeyville on Saturday, Dustin Hurlbutt got the win in relief of starter Cole Webb. John Branum got the save. But on a warm and windy day in western Kansas, the game wasn't about the pitching. It was about the bats and who would be the last team standing.

Colby jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Coffeyville cut the lead in half with a run in their half of the second. Luke Slagle scored the Ravens' run on an error by the Colby shortstop.

Colby extended the lead to 4-1 with a pair of runs in the third. Coffeyville would get a run in the fifth as Luis Munoz's sacrifice fly drove in Jordan Hodges, cutting the Colby lead to 4-2.

Colby would get four runs in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 8-2. That's when the Ravens' offense would get rolling.

Robbie Hoffman walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Aric Valencia and Hodges followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Adam Valencia grounded out to second to score Hoffman and advance Aric Valencia and Hodges to second and third. Munoz drove in both runners with a double to center, cutting the Colby lead to 8-5. The Ravens weren't done, though.

Slagle reached on an error by the Colby third baseman. Munoz advanced to third on the play and Slagle would wind up on second. John Branum and David Espinosa both followed with RBI singles and the Colby lead was down to 8-7 with just one out and runners on first and second for Coffeyville. Alex Wilson would follow with a single to score the tying run with Espinosa advancing to third on the play. Hoffman would drive in the lead run with a sacrifice fly that scored Espinosa. Wilson would get caught stealing for the third out, but the Ravens seven run seventh inning gave the boys in red a 9-8 lead.

Colby would get a run in the top of the eight to tie the contest at 9-9, but Coffeyville would answer with two runs in the their of the eighth to take an 11-9 lead. Braden Brown scored on a wild pitch and Slagle's double to score Adam Valencia accounted for the two Coffeyville runs in the inning.

Colby scored a run in the night against Coffeyville's Branum, but Colby stranded the tying run on first as Coffeyville held on for the 11-10 win.

Branum got the save, allowing a run in an inning of work. Hurlbutt got the win in relief, allowing two runs in two innings. Webb started and allowed seven runs in six innings.
