July 10, 2014
Coffeyville Red Raven third baseman will have a decision to make: play college ball for Wichita State University next season or sign with the Detroit Tigers. Rader was selected in the 16th round of this year's annual Major League Baseball amateur draft on June 7 by the Tigers.
Rader, who played high school ball at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee, Kan., was named a first team NJCAA All-American as an infielder after a dominant season for the Ravens in 2014.
Rader set seven offensive school records this past season for the Ravens. Rader hit .434 with 14 homers and 53 RBIs. The 14 homers set a season record for the Ravens. In addition to that record, Rader also set school records for at bats (221), hits (96), triples (6), runs scored (85), slugging percentage (.760) and stolen bases (47).
Nationally, Rader was tied for fourth in batting average heading into the Region VI tournament. Rader was also tied for fourth nationally in homers and was second in stolen bases.
