Several Athletes Qualify for Nationals at Texas Tech Meet

Several Coffeyville Community College indoor track and field athletes qualified for the national meet by posting qualifying standards at a meet hosted this past weekend at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

On the men's side, Andre De Grasse and Devon Rittinger both made national qualifying times in the 55m dash. De Grasse placed fourth overall at Texas Tech with a time of 6.32 seconds. Rittinger was clocked in 6.50 seconds. The national qualifying mark is 6.54 seconds.

De Grasse also made a qualifying time in the 200m dash, finishing second overall with a time of 21.67 seconds. The national qualifying time is 22.33 seconds.

Sophomore Will Taylor and freshman Ben Grant will both go to nationals in the 1000m run. Taylor recorded a time of 2:38.55 and Grant was right behind with a time of 2:38.59. The national qualifying mark is 2:40.49.

Deondra Canaday had a national qualifying mark in the shot put, heaving the shot 15.59m, or 51'-1.75". The national qualifying mark is 14.93m.

Three Ravens made qualifying marks in the weight throw. Canaday, Devin Garcia and Dontaye Rivera each exceeded the qualifying mark of 15.25m. Canaday had a throw of 16.16m, or 53'-0.25". Garcia's best throw was measured at 15.96m, or 52'-4.5", and Rivera had a throw of 15.30m, or 50'-2.50".

LJ Wallace and Jahleel Lilly both just missed qualifying for nationals in the long jump. The qualifying mark is 2.00m and both athletes recorded a best mark of 1.99m, or 6'-6.25".

On the women's side, Kim Mitchell qualified for nationals in the 55m dash. Mitchell posted a time of 7.28 seconds, besting this year's qualifying standard of 7.32 seconds by .04 seconds.

Racquel Williams, who has already qualified for nationals in the shot put, set a new personal best. Williams had a best throw of 13.97m, or 45'-10", at Texas Tech. The throw also set a new school record in the event that Williams established last week at the season opening meet at Missouri Southern.

Torriah Bell just missed qualifying for nationals in the long jump. Bell had a best mark of 5.37m, or 17'-7.50". This year's qualifying mark is 5.40m.

The Ravens will send athletes to two separate meets on Friday, Jan. 25. The Ravens will compete at the Johnson County Indoor in Overland Park, Kan., and at the KU Indoor in Lawrence, Kan.
