Talor Smith wins home conference tournament

Coffeyville Community College sophomore Talor Smith hits a drive on the eleventh hole on Monday morning at the Jayhawk Conference designated tournament played at the Coffeyville Country Club on Sept. 18-19. Smith made a ten foot putt on the final hole to win individual medalist by one stroke over Dodge City's Jacie Sheer.
Coffeyville Community College sophomore Talor Smith drained a ten foot putt on the final hole to win by one stroke the Jayhawk Conference designated tournament played Sunday and Monday at the Coffeyville Country Club. Smith shot a tournament leading 88 on Sunday and led Dodge City's Jacie Sheer by two strokes going into Monday's final nine-hole round. Smith shot a final nine total of 47, good for a 27-hole total of 135. Sheer fired a 46 on Monday to finish one stroke off the pace.
"Putting was my strongest suit today," said Smith after Monday's round. "I loved (winning the tournament)."
Smith was the Ravens' lone national qualifier last season, and she hopes for a repeat this season. "My goals are to finish top three in the conference and make it back to nationals again."
Dodge City's Maurica Smith and Krystal Martinez tied for third place with identical rounds of 93 and 46 for a 27-hole total of 139. Placing fifth was Barton County's Kaylee Rudolph who shot rounds of 93 and 48 for a 141 total.
The team championship went to Dodge City. Barton County placed second with host Coffeyville in third place.
