Webb Goes 11, but Neosho County Wins in 13, 3-1
May 12, 2012
Cole Webb pitched 11 innings, allowing just a first inning run, in the Ravens 3-1 loss in 13 innings to the Neosho County Panthers on Saturday afternoon at the Region VI Tournament in Wichita.
Coffeyville's Cole Webb and Neosho County's Adam Giacalone matched up in an epic pither's duel on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the Region VI Tournament in Wichita. Webb allowed a first inning run on two singles and a walk, but he would go on to pitch ten scoreless innings. Giacalone was up to the challenge, though, and went 12 innings allowing a run in the fifth to the Ravens.
Robbie Hoffman, Aric Valencia and Jordan Hodges hit consecutive singles in the fifth to plate Coffeyville's run. Both pitchers would put up goose eggs through their remaining innings.
Webb was replaced by John Branum in the 12th inning. Branum pitched a scoreless top of the 12th and the Ravens had a golden opportunity to win in the bottom half of the inning. With two out, the Ravens had the winning run on third, but Jordan Hodges grounded out to end the threat. In the top of the 13th, Neosho County's David Bote would find the right-center field gap for a two run triple, giving the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Max Ising would relieve Giacalone and Ising would close out the game to preserve a 3-1 win for Neosho County.
In 11 innings, Webb allowed five hits and just three after the first inning. Webb walked three and struck out six. Branum was tagged with the loss.
