CCC students named to All-Kansas Academic Team

Coffeyville Community College (CCC) students, Brook Bradbury of Fort Scott, Kan. and Ashley Golden of Independence, Kan. were named to the 2006-07 All-Kansas Academic Team.  Forty-eight students from community and junior colleges in Kansas were named to the Academic Team in recognition of academic achievement, leadership and community service.  The team is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, an honor society for two-year institutions, the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees and the presidents of the state’s community colleges.

Bradbury is a pre-veterinary science major at CCC.  She is a member of the Horticulture Club and a reporter for both the Cattlewomen’s Club and the Block and Bridle Club.  She serves as vice president for the Collegiate Farm Bureau organization and vice president of communications for Phi Theta Kappa.

CCC administrators joined Bradbury and Golden and their families at the annual PTK Luncheon honoring members of the All-Kansas Academic Team on February 15.  The new members were announced and presented with a medal and scholarship.

Each student received a $300 scholarship and, if she transfers to a board of regents school, that school will contribute a $1,000 scholarship.  Students were nominated by their respective college presidents.  Their nomination also made them eligible for the All-USA Academic Team scholarship competition, sponsored by the AACC, Phi Theta Kappa and USA Today.  More than 1,600 students nationwide were nominated for the All-USA Academic Team.  First-team winners will receive a $2,500 stipend and a plaque.
