CCC-Columbus Technical Campus Receives $28,000 Grant

The Coffeyville Community College (CCC) Columbus Technical Campus receives a $28,000 Grant from the Coffeyville Area Community Foundation to assist with their residential construction project.  The project is part of the Construction Technology program at the college and will allow the students a real life project to complete in two years – the building of a 1,622 square foot home plus a two car garage in the Columbus area.  Instructor Kevin Hunt will work with the students who will be involved in all phases of the residential housing construction.

Electrical program students from the CCC Technical Campus in Coffeyville will be asked to collaborate on this project giving them a life size lab to work in.

“I am so excited for the construction program and students,” said CCC Technical Campus Director, Cindy Harrold.

The Coffeyville Area Community Foundation grant will be added to a donation from the CCC Foundation to help this project start.  The total cost of the project is $87,000 and CCC remains short about $30,000.  Area businesses are helping to reduce the cost of the project.  Crossland Construction sold the land to the College at a discount.  DePratt Equipment Sales has agreed to donate the use of heavy equipment for the project and the College is currently contacting additional vendors for their support.

The two year project will give the students a chance to not only learn but produce a quality project.  The students hope to break ground on the new house this spring.  Once the house is built and passes all inspections it will be sold (for around $105,000 based on the housing market) and the funds used to build the next house, keeping this two year project going for every new class of construction students at the college.
