CCC SkillsUSA students win at state competitionStudents from Coffeyville Community College, Columbus Technical Campus made their mark at this year’s Kansas Leadership and Skills Conference in Wichita, KS April 18-20. Students competed against technical students from across the state in Automotive Service, Collision Repair and Construction. Jarred Lloyd, who placed in the Automotive Written Exam and took the state championship in Parts Management said, “We have been preparing for this competition all year long and it ended up paying off for us.” “I had a great time on the SkillsUSA trip,” said Trevor Brown. “I did the best I could under a timed pressure situation and placed third in the ‘Hands On’ out of 55. I owe my knowledge and skills to my instructor, Jeff Phillips.” This years SkillsUSA winners include: Jarred Lloyd 1st, Parts Management Bill Elmore, 2nd Postsecondary Automotive Written Exam Trevor Brown 3rd Automotive Troubleshooting Jerrod VanGilder 8th Automotive Troubleshooting Jarred Lloyd 2nd and Trey Beech 3rd, High School Automotive Written Exam Bailey Zook 5th overall for Construction-Postsecondary Blake Parsons 5th overall for Construction-High School Joseph O’Malley 8th overall for Construction-High School Kyle Tedlock 10th overall for Construction-High School Jared Arbuckle 11th overall for Construction-High School “As the SkillsUSA Advisor and Automotive Instructor, I would like to congratulate all of the contestants of this year’s state competition in Wichita,” said instructor Jeff Phillips. “All of the contestants represented the school in outstanding fashion and performed extremely well.” “We had outstanding placement and are very proud of our future industrial employees. We would like to thank the community for supporting us at all of our fundraisers throughout the year. The money raised at the fundraisers is how we pay for our way to the competition. We are looking forward to competing next year and hope to wind up just as successful.” |
