Betty CorleBetty Corle retires from CCC

It has been 18 years since Betty Corle left her job as a paraprofessional working with disabled students at the Coffeyville elementary schools to join the Coffeyville Community College (CCC) team.  As a Red Raven, Corle has worked as the assistant coordinator of the Learning Laboratory and instructed college prep classes.

“I enjoy the challenge of teaching and preparing students for the next level,” said Corle.  “I especially enjoy the great co-workers who share a sense of humor and commitment.  I like to see students progress and go on to do well in their lives.”

Corle’s favorite part of CCC was the camaraderie with great co-workers and students.  The biggest change in 18 years for Corle was the increase in students needing college prep classes.

“The challenges seem to be greater each year,” she said.  “Students today reflect much of what is going on in society.”

When asked about special stories or people Corle remembers Brandon Jacobs, now a New York Giant football player, and Reggie Nelson, now playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I enjoyed working with Brandon and Reggie when they first came to CCC and it is great to see them doing well,” said Corle.

Corle will retire from CCC this May and plans to spend her time playing golf, going fishing, attending Red Raven events and “probably finishing another quilt or two and maybe get back to oil painting.”

She hopes to spend much of her time visiting her family which extends through Kansas, Missouri and Michigan and also includes a son on assignment in Germany.  Corle’s husband, Larry, is retired from John Deere Coffeyville.  The couple’s son, Steve, works for Chrysler Motors in Germany.  Their daughter, Brenda, is a council-person and Chamber of Commerce President in Plattsburg, Mo.  Corle has three grandsons and one granddaughter.

“We plan to travel a little more,” said Corle.  “In addition to Germany, I would like to visit the eastern and southern U.S.  I’m a history buff so that will be a part of our travels.”

Corle will be honored at a retirement party on May 9 at CCC.
