Ashley GoldenCoffeyville Community College student, Ashley Golden, was selected as an International Leader of Promise Scholar for the 2006-07 school year.  Golden is the president of the CCC Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and wrote a three page paper on how her actions changed her thoughts in addition to a paper outlining her future and educational career goals as part of the scholarship application process.  As one of only 30 recipients from the International Society, Golden received a $1,000 scholarship to continue her education at CCC and beyond.  Rod A. Risley, Phi Theta Kappa’s Executive Director, announced the 30 national winners and said the scholarships were determined on the basis of leadership demonstrated as well as leadership potential for future success.

“We have a lot of great instructors at CCC,” said Golden.  “My favorite class is College Algebra.”

Golden will graduate in May 2007 at the age of 17.  She will have completed course work through Calculus II and Physics II to obtain her Associates’ Degree in Pre-engineering.  She plans to continue her education at Texas A&M Commerce and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.  She then hopes to finish a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M College Station before going to work for NASA.

In addition to her studies, Golden is the head lifeguard at the Independence Water Park, enjoys horseback riding, sewing and cake decorating.  Golden is the first Leader of Promise Scholar for Coffeyville Community College.  For more information about the CCC Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society or the Honors Program call 1-800-782-4732.
