What the CCC librarian did on summer vacationRed Raven Graham Librarian, Marty Evensvold, put the books on the shelf and picked up a movie camera for his summer vacation. Armed with a degree in radio, television and film, a love for movie making and a good friend in the industry, Evensvold has spent 17 working with movies. “It is so much fun and you get to meet all types of interesting people – cast and crew,” said Evensvold. “It is an experience. Every time is different.” He spent part of the summer in Texas helping shoot the film, The Man Who Came Back starring Eric Braeden, Billy Zane, Armand Assante, Carol Alt, Sean Young, George Kennedy, Jennifer O’Dell and Peter Jason, among others. The first two weeks Evensvold worked as talent transportation, taking the actors and actresses to the gym, out to eat and back and forth from the set. He was then called back to be the director of photography for the behind-the-scenes shooting. Evensvold has worked with The Man Who Came Back director, Chuck Walker, on a variety of movie project over the past nearly 20 years. In Evensvold’s latest project, Eric Braeden dons a cowboy hat while starring in and executive producing the indie feature The Man Who Came Back, a western, in which he stars opposite Billy Zane and Armand Assante. Braeden, most famous for his portrayal of Victor Newman the past 27 years on the number one daytime soap The Young and The Restless, took a short hiatus from CBS while completing the project. Braeden last hit the silver screen with his portrayal of John Jacob Astor in the Academy Award winning film Titanic. Also cast in the feature are veteran character actor George Kennedy, Sean Young, Carol Alt, Peter Jason, Jennifer O’Dell who starred in the syndicated TV series The Lost World, James Patrick Stewart, Leonard Thomas, and retired professional boxer Ken Norton. Steve Bowen, Chuck Walker, Same Cable, and John Castellanos are the producers. Veteran indie director Glen Pitre (writer and director of Belizaire the Cajun) penned the script with Walker. The Man Who Came Back is an independent (indie) film which required investors to fund the project, rather than a studio. The film is currently in post-production and, as it takes nearly a year to complete a movie, it is scheduled to release in the spring of 2008. Coffeyville Community College (CCC) is working with producers to develop a CCC Broadcast and Theatre student practicum which would allow student the opportunity to work on a real movie set for a few weeks. “There are few colleges that allow students this opportunity,” said Evensvold. “This will give the students lots of experience.” Evensvold is looking forward to his next movie making project, potentially a horror film to be shot this fall.
