CCC Livestock Judging Team wins Dixie National

The Coffeyville Community College (CCC) Livestock Judging Team beat out 83 contestants from eight colleges in five states to take high team honors at the Dixie National Livestock Exposition in Jackson, Miss. this spring. The CCC Judgers took first overall, first in the Continental Division, second in the Market Division, second in the Brahman Influence Division, third in Oral Reasons and third in English Influence Division.

“This was a very good contest for our students to win,” said Coach, Brian Anderson.  “It was a challenging contest that the students had to think their way through and they did an excellent job of doing so.”

Anderson likes this contest as he could take freshmen and sophomores and they could all compete for awards.  The students judge entirely cattle at the Dixie National.

“It is nice because many of these students have never been to Jackson, Miss. and they can see the different influences of cattle in the south,” said Anderson.

Individually, Gus Plumb, a sophomore from Sarcoxie, Mo., took first in reasons, first overall, second in Brahman, fourth in Market, fifth in Continental and fifth in English.  Jack Gleason, a sophomore from Maple Hill, Kan., took fifth in Market and tenth in Brahman.  Seth Stroman, a sophomore from Williamsburg, Kan., took seventh in English and eighth overall.  Jeremy Sisco, a sophomore from Ozark, Mo., took tenth in Reasons and tenth in English.  Curtis Williams, a sophomore from Clovis, N.M., took seventh overall while the only freshman of the placers, Casie Greenwood of Hermitage, Ark. took fourth in Continental.  Nick Mertz, a sophomore from Belle, Mo., took ninth in Continental.

“Gus had an awesome day,” said Anderson.  “He won the whole contest and also reasons – it doesn’t get any better than that.  All of these young people deserve what they get.  They are very hard working and disciplined and are bettering themselves for greater accomplishments down the road.”
