Red Raven judging wins high team at San AntonioVery few livestock judging teams can end the year and say they have won a national contest. As few as six schools in the national can say they have done that in a year and Coffeyville Community College (CCC) is one of them. The Red Raven Livestock Judging Team won high team overall at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition on February 16, 2008. “This one was huge,” said Livestock Judging Coach, Brian Anderson. “We judge at six contests a year that are considered national contests, the prestigious ones, and San Antonio is one of those six.” In addition to the top honor, the CCC Livestock
Judging Team took high team in goats, fourth in sheep, fourth in cattle
and fifth in hogs. Individually, Jeremy Sisco of Chadwick, Mo. took
fourth in goats, Gus Plumb of Sarcoxie, Mo. took fifth in goats, Micah
Dorsey of Satin, Tex. took sixth in goats and Jake Gleason of Maple
Hill, Kan. took ninth place in goats. Plumb also took fifth place in
reasons. The Red Ravens judged against 131 other students and 21 junior
college teams from across the United States. |

“This is one of the contests we’ve been waiting to finally put one away and win one,” said CCC Livestock Judging Coach, Cary Crow. “The only way to get back on the van is to win it. It made the drive from San Antonio (Tex.) to Coffeyville well worth it.” “We can walk away at the end of this year and say we won a national contest,” said Anderson. “It gives those students a feeling that they have arrived among the elite – they have accomplished something only six schools can say they have done in a year.” The Red Raven Livestock Judgers will compete next at the Houston Livestock Show on March 19.
