Provisional members of the Eta Gamma Chapter
of Phi Theta Kappa at Coffeyville Community College were recently
honored at the Ninth Annual Provisional Members Breakfast. The event was
held September 18, at 7 a.m. in the CCC Student Union Oak Room and was
hosted by the CCC Honors Program and Bethanie Frank, Director. Following
the buffet breakfast, Shanna Ward, Eta Gamma President brought greetings
from the chapter and its members while Kansas Region Southern District
Vice President Michael Steen brought congratulations from the Kansas
Region. Alysia Johnston, Interim Vice President of Academic Services
brought greetings and congratulations from the CCC administration.
Kendall Roper and Alexander West, Eta Gamma co-vice presidents of
scholarship gave an update on upcoming scholarship opportunities for the
new members and chapter advisor Linda McFate presented two plaques with
the names of the chapter’s All Kansas Academic and All USA Academic Team
Members, Leaders of Promise, New Century Scholars and Coca-Cola
Scholars.
The following Eta Gamma Chapter Officers were introduced: Shanna Ward,
president; Alexander West, co-vice president of scholarship; Kendall
Roper, co-vice president of scholarship; Teresa Menefee, co-vice
president of service; Sarah McClenning, co-vice president of service;
Michael Steen, co-vice president of fellowship; Israel Bisoni, co-vice
president of fellowship; Stacy Polkinghorne, vice president of
communications; Ashley Ofuokwu, secretary; Darcy Hurlbutt, treasurer;
Wislly Desir, international students representative; Shehan Fernando,
international students representative; and Chris Forquer, transportation
director. Alec Rigdon was introduced as the elected provisional member’s
representative and was presented with a chapter officer’s badge. Group
pictures were taken of both the fall 2007 Provisional Members Class and
the fall 2007 Eta Gamma Chapter Officers.
Members of the 2007 Honors Program Provisional Members include: Alex
Deters, Nick Hardesty, Chance Harmon, Samantha Henry, Molly Keeler,
Tyler Lansangan, Breezy Mangan, Nick Mertz, Valerie Portwood, Samantha
Quackenbush, Alec Rigdon, Dayne Riley, Zach Robertson, William Stoner,
and Michael Truesdell. Eta Gamma Chapter’s Provisional Members Program
allows Presidential Scholars and Honors Program Members to become
provisional members during their first semester at CCC. This allows the
freshmen students to participate in chapter activities this first
semester, build their résumé, and develop leadership skills. At the end
of their first semester, those provisional members earning the required
3.75 GPA are then inducted into full membership with chapter voting
privileges.
