Phi Theta Kappa Member of the Month
Ashley Golden, February 2007
 Coffeyville
Community College (CCC) student, Ashley Golden of Independence, Kan.
has been selected as a Guistwhite Scholar of the Phi Theta Kappa
Honor Society. She is one of only 20 students selected from over
500 applicants and the second Scholar CCC has called one of its own
in the past two years. Guistwhite Scholars are awarded $5,000
scholarships to assist them in completing their baccalaureate
degrees. High academic standards must be met and retained for
Scholars to receive the scholarship.
”The scholarship, in addition to the others I’ve received, means
I should be able to go to Texas A&M Commerce for free,” said
Golden. “I save a lot of money by coming to Coffeyville first and
it gave me the opportunities to earn money for a four year degree.”
Golden was also named the CCC Phi Theta Kappa Member of the Month
for February. She serves as the President and is active in
fundraising for the Relay for Life among other club functions.
Golden will graduate in May from CCC and will begin an
aeronautics degree at Texas A&M Commerce in the fall.
Brooke Bradbury, November 2006
Brooke
Bradbury of Fort Scott, Kan. was named the Coffeyville Community
College (CCC) Phi Theta Kappa Student of the Month. Bradbury is a
sophomore pre-veterinary science major. She attends CCC on a
Presidential Scholarship and currently has a 3.9 grade point
average.
“It will be a 4.0 by the time I
graduate,” she said.
Brooke is a member of the CCC
Livestock Judging Team, Vice President of Communications for the Phi
Theta Kappa Honor Society, Vice President of the Collegiate Farm
Bureau club and the reporter for the Aggie Club’s Horticulture,
Cattlemen and Cattlewomen and Block and Bridle Clubs.
Bradbury will graduate from CCC
in May and plans to continue her education at Kansas State. She
hopes to one day have a mixed animal practice in Kansas.
Michael
Steen, October 2006
Michael Steen of Coffeyville,
Kan. was selected at the October Coffeyville Community College (CCC)
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Student of the Month. A sophomore at
CCC, Steen is studying Computer Network Program at the Coffeyville
Technical Campus. He will graduate in May and plans to attend a
four-year university to continue his education in computer science.
Steen plans to work one day in the information technology field.
Steen is the Vice President of
Fellowship in the PTK organization. “I enjoy PTK,” he said.
“It is fun and there are a lot of benefits to being involved.”
Steen chose CCC because he “is a Coffeyvillian”. When he is not in
class or helping with PTK activities Steen works at K&S Oil.
Tori
Loomis, September 2006
Tori Loomis of Coffeyville, Kan.
was named the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Member of the Month. A
pre-marketing major, Loomis graduated in May 2006 with an Associate
of Arts degree from Coffeyville Community College (CCC). She is
currently taking transfer courses at CCC until December when she
will transfer to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising
in Los Angeles, Calif. Loomis earned a Phi Theta Kappa Transfer
Scholarship that will apply $4,000 a year to her tuition in
California. She will finish her degree from the Fashion Institute
in 2008 and hopes to work as a promoter of clubs and underground
musicians and artists.
Loomis is active in the CCC Phi
Theta Kappa Eta Gamma Chapter and serves as its Vice President of
Service. Loomis is also a member of the Student Government
Association and a tutor in the CCC Learning Lab.
