Sequoyah High School students visit CCCCoffeyville Community College (CCC) hosted seniors from Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah, Okla. on Wednesday, January 23. The students were greeted by the cheer and dance teams, watched a video from the theatre department and listened to a welcome from College President, Dr. Don. Woodburn. The group then moved to the science laboratory where they were challenged to a test by Biology instructor, Tyler Hickman. Students were asked to label the digestive system, identify varying objects under a microscope and properly name species of snake and other creatures in bottles. The group then took part in interviews and learned the behind-the-scenes information it takes to put on the Red Zone News each week in the CCC Broadcasting Department. The tour continued at the Red Raven Art Department before students ran the stairs at the Veterans Memorial Stadium. The group visited with instructors from the welding department and toured the Coffeyville Technical campus before meeting back on the main campus for dinner with faculty and coaches. The afternoon was wrapped up during the Red Raven Basketball game. The Sequoyah High School students are part of a growing group of Native American students earning degrees in Native American Leadership. The first graduates of this program will walk across the stage this May.Scholarships are available for students interested in studying in this program as well as many other activities at CCC.
