Jordan Poland named Student of the Year

Jordan Poland, a freshman from Isabel, Kansas, was named Coffeyville Community College Student of the Year at May 8's College Board of Trustees Meeting.

Poland is a Presidential Scholar with a 4.0 grade point average through the Fall 2006 semester.  Poland also played second base for the Red Raven baseball team this spring, earning second team honors on the KJCCC All-Conference Team.

With spring rains playing havoc on Poland's schedule, he still managed to keep his head above water in the classroom.

"I've been blessed with some talents in the classroom," said Poland.  "The baseball part was the hardest for me."

A history major, Poland hasn't made a firm decision of what he will do after graduating from CCC next year.

"I want to play baseball and get my degree," said Poland.  "I'm not sure of what I will do for a career, but being a teacher is high on my list right now."
