Parent Plus Loan Process

CCC participates in the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan Program. All Parent PLUS loans are processed through the U.S. Department of Education. Parents who have previously received Parent PLUS Loans through a bank will be required to sign a new Parent PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) with the U.S. Department of Education.

The parent’s eligibility for a Direct Parent PLUS Loan is determined by a credit check conducted by the U.S. Department of Education. As the outcome of the credit check is valid for a period of only 90 days, CCC recommends that parents apply for a Direct Parent PLUS Loan no earlier than 60 days prior to the start of the enrollment period for which the loan is intended and the student is eligible. In cases where a previous credit approved outcome expires prior to the loan’s disbursement, a new credit check / approval will be required for the loan to disburse. The outcome of the new credit check could result in the previously approved loan being denied. With the above in mind, to ensure students and parents have the access to anticipated Parent PLUS funds, CCC recommends parents apply for Parent PLUS Loans no earlier than 60 days prior to the start of the enrollment period for which the loan is intended and the student is eligible.

Parents applying for a PLUS loan must complete a PLUS Application and Master Promissory Note.   Both of these steps may be completed online at www.studentloans.gov. After logging in, parents should select Complete PLUS Request Process from the Manage My Direct Loan menu box and follow the on screen instructions. This should be done no earlier than 60 days prior to the start of the enrollment period for which the loan is intended and the student is eligible - see above. When this is done, a credit check will be conducted on the parent by the U.S. Department of Education.

For questions or concerns regarding the result from the credit check, the parent may contact the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-557-7394 (8am-8pm EST, Monday through Friday) or 1-877-461-7010 TDD/TYY.  The parent borrower must also complete the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) online.  The MPN serves only as a promissory note. It does not automatically generate the PLUS loan funds each year. Parents are not required to sign a Direct Parent PLUS Loan MPN each year; however, they are required to submit the Direct Parent PLUS Loan Application. The Parent will also be required to complete a Master Promissory Note in the parents name.

After these steps are complete please submit the Parent Plus Application to the financial aid office at Coffeyville Community College, 400 W 11th, Coffeyville KS 67337. Fax 620-252-7098.

Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment

Effective for the 2020-21 award year, all Direct Loan borrowers (subsidized, unsubsidized, and parent PLUS) will be required to complete the Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment (ASLA) before receiving the first disbursement on the first Direct Loan that the student or parent borrows for each new award year. The ASLA requires student and parent borrowers to view how much they currently owe in federal student loans, and to acknowledge that they have seen these amounts, before borrowing new loans each award year.  The ASLA requirement is in addition to Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note. After April 15, 2020, borrowers can log into their student aid account at www.studentaid.gov with their FSA ID and password to complete this Annual Student Aid Acknowledgement.
