Grounds

Friends of the Mansion

Mansion in the SpringA curving, hedge-lined drive leads from the northwest corner of the property up to the Brown Mansion.  Irises planted by the Browns still bloom along this drive in the spring.  Many of the trees on the grounds are also the original plantings.

Northeast of the home is a small pond.  A line of fruit trees is planted north of the servants’ quarters.  The spacious west grounds of the home slope down to the highway, with a screen of small shrubs forming the border of the yard.  The southwest of the grounds is a lovely shaded area.

The greenhouse is situated in the southeast, east of the main gardens. Beyond the greenhouse is a wooded area leading down to the Verdigris River, which curves along the east edge of the grounds.
