Coffeyville
Happenings:
- Interstate Classic Basketball Tournament: Boy’s high school
basketball at its best. Eight teams from Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and
Arkansas make up this tournament hosted the third weekend in January.
- New Beginning Festival: Arts and crafts, civil war
re-enactments, great food, concerts, cheese festival, carnival and lots of
family fun are found in Coffeyville the last weekend of April.
- Inter-State Fair & Rodeo: The largest event of its kind in
southeast Kansas features top name country music concerts, a demolition
derby and four nights of PRCA rodeo in addition to a wide variety of
livestock and fair exhibits. Held the second full week in August.
- Dalton Defenders Days: Relive the October 5, 1892, Dalton Raid
through re-enactments held on the plaza. An ice cream social, arts and
crafts and many other activities combine to make this an event you won’t
soon forget. First Saturday in October.
- Jayhawk Shoot-out: Three day tournament, the first weekend in
December, featuring Kansas Jayhawk Conference men’s and women’s teams.

- James Road: County Road 1400 - south on Buckeye, take the curve
back west and you’re on the road named for the old James School.
- Dearing Y: South of Dearing, it’s the intersection of Highway
166 and 10th Street Road.
- State Line Road: County Road 1200 - south on Buckeye, the road
on the Kansas, Oklahoma border.
- Big Hill: The locals’ name for Pfister Park, where the swimming
pool and municipal golf course are located. Not to be confused with Big
Hill Reservoir on the Montgomery - Labette county line near Cherryvale.
- Turkey Farm Road: County Road 2600 - named for a turkey farm,
this road runs east and west and is located four miles north of Highway
166.
- Tenth Street Road: County Road 3900 - the north-south road west
of Coffeyville that runs through Dearing to Independence.
- Overpass: located west of Coffeyville on U.S. Highway 166.
- Underpass: the railroad trestle at the intersections of U.S.
166 and U.S. 169, or 11th Street and Patterson.
- River Bridge: the bridge across the Verdigris River at the east
edge of Coffeyville.
- Southtown: our neighbor to the south, South Coffeyville,
Oklahoma.
- BDTC: Business Development and Training Center, located in
Coffeyville’s Industrial Park.
- ‘Nado: the shortened version of the Golden Tornado, the Field
Kindley High School mascot.
- Ravens: a shortened version of the Coffeyville Community
College team name, the Red Ravens.
- Memorial Hall Lot: 11th and Elm, the former location of
Coffeyville’s Memorial Hall.
- Industrial Park: located on north U.S. Highway 169 where many
of our industries are located.

City Rules and
Regulations Below are some of the more common rules and
regulations that must be complied with as a resident of the community.
Driver’s License: Driver’s License Office, Coffeyville City Hall,
Second Floor, Thursdays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., 2 - 4 p.m. Minimum age for
drivers: 16. Seat belts required for driver, front-seat passengers and ages
4-13; child restraints required for under 4. Helmets for motorcycles are
required for those under 18 years of age.
Marriage License: District Court Office, Coffeyville City Hall, $50,
three day waiting period. Those applying under the age of 18 must have a
parent’s signature.
Hunting and Fishing Licenses: Persons 16 to 65, who have been
bonafide residents of the state of Kansas for 60 days immediately prior to
buying a license, must have a resident license in possession while hunting
and fishing in Kansas. All licenses expire December 31 of year of
issuance. If born on or after July 1, 1957, a hunter must have completed an
approved hunter education course as required by state. Licenses are
available at most sporting goods stores.
Pet Registration: Dog licenses are required within the city limits of
Coffeyville. A two-year dog license tag will be issued by the city clerk
upon payment of the required $8 fee and presentation of proof of current
rabies vaccination; provided that dogs given a one-year rabies vaccination
will be issued a one-year license for $4. Application for a dog license tag
must be made within 10 days after the dog becomes six months of age. Dog
tag renewal must be made on or before the tenth day following the dog’s
rabies vaccination.
Vehicle Registration: Tag Office, 707 Spring, 251-0830.
Voter Registration: A citizen must be at least 18 years of age to
vote. This registration can be completed in the city clerk’s office by
filling out the appropriate form.
Juvenile Curfew: Youth under age 18 are not allowed on the streets of
Coffeyville between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. on any Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, or Thursday or from 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m. on any Saturday or
Sunday. There are provisions for emergency situations.
Liquor: The legal age for drinking liquor in Kansas is 21 years.
Lawns: Weeds and indigenous grasses on or about residential which,
because of its height, has a blighting influence on the neighborhood. Any
such weeds and grasses shall be presumed to be blighting if they exceed 8
inches in height.
Snow Removal: Residents must remove snow from sidewalks, including
curbside sidewalks, within 24 hours after a snowfall; however, if the
snowfall occurs in the nighttime, it shall be removed not later than 10
hours after sunrise.
Rummage Sale Permit: $3, good for three consecutive days; limit of
two per year.
