Humanities Project: Musician Doug Hawf Performs at CCC On Jan. 23

Doug Hawf.

Musician Doug Hawf will be performing on the Coffeyville Community College campus on Tuesday, January 23, as part of the CCC Humanities Project. The public is invited to the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday humanities performances at CCC.  The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Performing Arts Theatre.

Hawf, who hails from Southern Illinois, has played music all of his life and is a wizard of stringed instruments.  Hawf has performed fiddle, banjo and guitar as a cast member of the Smokey Mountain Tunes and Tales in Gatlinburg Tenn.   Hawf tours regularly with Dennis Stroughmatt, et l’Esprit Creole, and with Julian Davis. Hawf also performs with his family bluegrass band and plays first chair violin for the Vincennes University string ensemble.

With a program titled “Bluegrass, Blues and Roots,” Hawf takes listeners on musical history ride, showing how these three genres of music intertwine, and how they have an influence on rock and roll and even pop music. Hawf finds it amazing that such diverse musical styles all arise out of 12 notes, and even the non-musicians in his audiences will walk away with a better understanding — and appreciation — of music in general.

When Hawf's not out playing music, he enjoys working in his music store and sharing the joy of music with his many students.  When Hawf performs, audience members will be exposed to a variety of music ranging from classic rock to classical, and many styles in between.
