Humanities Project: Jan Krist to Perform at CCC on Feb. 16

Coffeyville Community College welcomes Jan Krist to the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on Feb.16 at 10:30 A.M. Admission is free.

Currently based in Fort Wayne, Ind., Krist’s musical career dates back to the 70’s where she could be found playing in clubs and coffee houses around Detroit.

Jan Krist is a founding member of Southeast Michigan’s Yellow Room Gang, a songwriting collective that includes Kitty Donohoe, Matt Watroba, Jim Bizer, Annie Capps, David Barret, David Tamulevich and Michael Hough. She regularly performs in a duo with Jim Bizer.

In addition to her work as a singer and songwriter, Krist is a visual artist. Krist recently received her BFA from Indiana University, Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IPFW).

Krist will be presenting a program of Big Band Era songs and songs from the Great American Songbook. This will include music by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and Gershwin.

"Her talent as a songwriter equals - if not surpasses - her vocal gifts. She has an uncanny way of cutting to the heart of a topic and providing the listener with food for thought,” said Bob Darden of Billboard Magazine. “It is evocative ... somewhere between Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, but it's all Jan Krist. Unreservedly recommended."
