CCC student broadcasters place at national competition

Two teams of student broadcasters at Coffeyville Community College placed at the Skills USA National Leadership Conference held in Kansas City, Mo., June 20-24.

The Video Production Team of Mike Ruple and Michael Pearce placed fifth. Ruple, a May graduate from Baxter Springs, and Pearce, a freshman from Dearing, competed against nine other college teams. The video production contest consisted of a two day event in which students had to shoot and produce a sixty second spot promoting the Kansas City Jazz Museum.

This was the first year that Coffeyville Community College had a team compete in the video production contest on the national level.

The Broadcast News Team of Aaron Freeman, Brian Melies, Jasmine Kyle and Tristan Zavala placed second out of four teams. Freeman is a freshman from Kansas City, Kan., Melies is a freshman from Coffeyville and Kyle is a freshman from Concordia, Kan. Zavala, an Elk City, Kan. native, graduated from CCC this past May.

Students in the broadcast news competition had a two hour time period to write, produce and record a three minute, two anchor newscast.Competition awards were presented to these students in a ceremony on June 24 at Kemper Arena.
