What You Should Know....

Medical insurance is recommended for any referrals to doctors or visits to the emergency room or hospital while attending CCC. Parents who carry medical insurance on their student may do so as long as they are 26 or younger according to the provisions of the 2010 Health Reform Bill. Students should keep a copy of or a duplicate insurance card with them while here at CCC in case of medical emergency. Students should also have available the phone number of the family physician from home as well as the phone numbers of their parents work and home. A doctor’s visit can cost up to $100 not including any tests or medication and most doctors will not see a patient unless they have the cash up front.

Emergency rooms can not turn a patient away, but can be very costly to use if not an actual emergency.

An urgent care clinic is located in Coffeyville at 209 W 7th Street (Facebook Link to urgent care clinic).

Students with a major medical history such as epilepsy, diabetes, heart problems, etc., should carry a medical information card or wear a medical ID that identifies such illness.

Immunizations Recommended

  • Current immunization records are required for all athletes and those living in the CCC residence halls.
  • Anyone living in the dormitory should consider getting a meningitis immunization before the Fall semester.  Bacterial meningitis is an infection of the brain and spinal cord.  It is a very serious illness and can be fatal.
  • A TB (tuberculosis) skin test is recommended if the student has not had one in the past year and is required if the student has travelled out of the country or lived in another country during the past year.
  • A current tetanus shot is recommended if the student has not had one in the past ten years.
  • An MMR II (measles, mumps, rubella) should be given while the student is in high school and is required before attending a 4-year college/university.
  • Hepatitis B immunizations are recommended and should have been given while the student was in high school.
  • Flu vaccine is available to all students and faculty in the Fall for a reduced rate and are given by the Student Health Nurse.
  • Additional information about CCC’s immunization and tuberculosis evaluation and testing policy can be found at the provided link.
