The Coffeyville Community College Technical Campus had several students in the automotive service and collision repair programs compete at the State Skills USA Contest in Wichita. Justin Graven, a resident of Independence, Kan., won a gold medal for his first place finish in the Vehicle Written Test Contest. Graven competed in the secondary division.

Adam Custer, an Independence, Kan. native, placed sixth in the same contest and Charles McFarland, a Coffeyville native, placed ninth. Both Custer and McFarland competed in the post-secondary division.

Custer and McFarland also placed in the Auto Parts Management Contest. Custer was sixth and McFarland ninth in the post-secondary division.

Brennan Harp, Coffeyville, finished eighth in the Automotive Service Technology (Hands On) Contest. Harp competed in the secondary division. Placing 12th in the post-secondary division was Jimmy Wolfe, a student from Peru, Kan.

Roy Shafer is the Automotive Service Technology Instructor at the CCC Technical Campus.

Dana Holstrom, a Overland Park, Kan. native, was sixth in the Automotive Refinishing Technology Contest. Holstrom competed in the post-secondary division. John Young is the Collision Repair Instructor at the CCC Technical Campus.

Also competing at the State Skills USA Contest in Wichita were two students from the Broadcasting and Communications Technology program taught at CCC's main campus. Xavier N'Gouan, a sophomore from Cote D'Ivoire and Samantha Barney both won gold medals in Television Production Contest. Barney, a freshman from Chetopa, Kan., also received the 2012 Skills USA Kansas Scholarship for the post-secondary division.

Coffeyville Community College also received recognition for being a chapter that saw a Skills USA membership increase for the 2011-2012 school year. The chapter saw increases in both high school and college membership.

Shafer was also elected to a three year post as a college member of the Kansas Skills USA Foundation Board of Directors.
