Eta Gamma Participates in Outhouse Festival

Members of the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Coffeyville Community College sponsored an outhouse for the 18th Annual Outhouse Festival at Elk Falls, Kansas, November 22-23.  The students were invited to sponsor an outhouse after holding their fall officer retreat and learning of the history of the town and the festival’s tourist attraction.

The CCC students chose as their outhouse theme, Raven’s Roost, featuring the college’s mascot.  A large three dimensional Raven was suspended above the nest on top of the shed roof while smaller Ravens were in the nest.  Raven’s Roost was printed on a barn wood sign while a mannequin, red and white checked curtains and CCC marketing information was used inside the outhouse.

Eta Gamma officer Bethany Acridge served as project chairman with assistance from CCC staff Marsha VanDyne and Linda Hood and faculty member Clarence Ray.
The following ten outhouses were featured in the competition:  160 Rest Stop, iCup, Quack Pot, Raven’s Roost, Nose-stalgia, Chicken House Outhouse, Santa’s North Hole, Santa’s Pit Stop, School Stool, and Pretty Privy.

The festival also featured the Reach for the Sky Bluegrass Band, Clint Gilbert, horse drawn wagon rides, Harvest Handcrafts, a huge garage sale with antiques and collectibles, Shape of Love Shoppe, and potter’s wheel demonstrations at the Elk Falls Pottery.
