Humanities Project: Arbuckle and Page to Entertain With Kansas Folk Songs on March 27

Dustin Arbuckle, left, and Tom Page, right, will perform at CCC on March 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Spencer/Rounds Performing Arts Theatre.

Call it roots or Americana, but the music made by Kansas-based artists Dustin Arbuckle and Tom Page is the intersection of blues, folk, bluegrass, country and more. The duo’s origins run back more than a decade when vocalist and harmonica player Dustin Arbuckle, and guitarist and vocalist Tom Page began performing gigs together. “Tom has played everything from punk rock to Doc Watson-style folk and when we first started I had mostly played blues,” recalls Arbuckle.

Over the last few years, Arbuckle and Page have been bringing together their native knowledge of Kansas folk music with materials gathered from Selda Grauerholtz of Coffeyville, and from the Joan O’Bryant archive at Wichita State University with the goal of producing a new "Folk Songs of Kansas" album.  The duo's program represents the progress that has been made so far on this journey.

Arbuckle and Page will briefly discuss each era of music represented, and play a mix of traditional songs and modern compositions that are part of the modern heart of Kansas folk music.

Arbuckle and Page will perform on the Coffeyville Community College campus on Tuesday, March 27, as part of the CCC Humanities Project. The public is invited to the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday humanities performances at CCC.  The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Performing Arts Theatre.
