Coffeyville, KS – Ahead of the fall semester, Coffeyville Community College (CCC) faculty and staff
participated in two critical safety trainings this week—CPR/AED certification and QPR Suicide Prevention
Gatekeeper training—furthering the college’s commitment to the health and well-being of its campus
community.
The CPR and AED portion, led by CCC EMT/Paramedic Instructor Casey Goff and part-time EMT/Paramedic Instructor Kyle Evans, provided hands-on instruction for lifesaving techniques on adults, children, and infants, along with AED operation. The training equips participants with the skills and confidence to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency.
In partnership with Four County Mental Health Center and CCC Counselor Megan Brown, selected faculty and staff also took part in the QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Program. This evidence-based program trains individuals to recognize warning signs of a suicide crisis, offer hope, and connect individuals to appropriate help. Those chosen for the program are faculty and staff who work closely with students, ensuring that support is available when it’s needed most.
"When Four County approached me about providing a training for staff, I was excited to bring additional mental health and suicide prevention resources to campus. QPR is an important tool that can be utilized for any trained staff to help address mental health needs for our students. We are grateful to Four County for thinking of CCC!" said Megan Brown, CCC Counselor.
"Our students are at the heart of everything we do. Through QPR training, selected members of our campus community can start that meaningful conversation and guide them toward help. It’s about showing every student they are seen, valued, and never alone," said Ryan McCune, CCC Vice President for Student Services.
With the fall semester underway, CCC remains committed to providing both academic excellence and a safe, supportive environment for all students.
