CCC to offer scuba diving class

Students may enroll now for the Coffeyville Community College (CCC) scuba diving class in the spring semester as part of its community offerings. The class has three options for varying levels of divers as well as open water certification preference. Students will have the option of becoming certified in a lake near Coffeyville or during a spring break trip to Roatan, Honduras. The three hour class generally transfers as a PE or elective class. Students who are not yet certified will begin with classroom sessions on January 24 and 31 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Those classes will then move to the pool at Field Kindley High School for three more sessions with scuba gear on February 7, 14 and 21. Students will then either complete open water certification in March during the Honduras trip or in May at a lake in Arkansas. The class for those who receive open water certification in the U.S. costs $379 for Kansas residents. The class for students who chose to complete certification in Honduras will cost $1,424 for Kansas residents and includes dive certification. For those already scuba diving certified and interested in logging nine to 14 dives in one week, the cost is $1,075 for Kansas residents. The cost for those traveling to Honduras includes lodging, three meals a day plus snacks, three boat dives a day, one night dive, unlimited shore diving and snorkeling and transfer to and from the airport. Students are responsible for their own air transportation to and from Roatan, Honduras. Students should plan to arrive on March 19 and depart on March 26.
