Geraldine “Jerry” (Walterscheid) Liebert was born in 1932 and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1950. She went on to attend CCC where she played in the concert and marching bands, was a member of the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and worked as a lab assistant to Warren Kraft, head of the CCC physical science department. Jerry continued her education at the University of Kansas and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. “I would not have been a pharmacist if I had not attended CCC,” said Jerry. “It (CCC) is the best bargain in town.” She has spent the last 54 years working as a pharmacist in Coffeyville. Jerry is also a co-owner of the oldest retail business in Coffeyville – Isham’s True Value Hardware Store. Isham’s has been in business since 1870 and is located on its original building site in downtown Coffeyville. In 1962, Jerry married Albert Liebert and the couple has three children, Ann Marie Vannoster, Mary Liebert Franklin and Jane Ellen Liebert. They also have five grandchildren. Jerry is a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church, the Holy Name Altar Society, a volunteer for the Pioneer Chapter of the American Red Cross, a Water Safety Instructor and a Water Safety Instructor Trainer. “Not only did CCC serve me well as a student, but I was able to continue my education at CCC especially when technology became more and more a necessity,” said Jerry. “I took several computer classes to help me with my job as a pharmacist as well as a business owner.” CCC Foundation Member, Lue Barndollar spoke at the luncheon and said, “I would be remiss in introducing the Liebert honorees without also mentioning Mary Knapp Liebert. Mary’s husband was a cousin of Bob and Al’s. Mary taught at Coffeyville Community College for 34 years, much of that time as Chair of the Social Science Department – so, as you see, the Lieberts have a LONG association with this college.” The Lieberts are honored by CCC for their support of the college throughout the years and their dedication to the Red Ravens. “They truly are supporters not only of Coffeyville Community College or the three C’s - but also of the four C’s: church, company, college, and community,” said Barndollar.
