Coffeyville, Kan. – Coffeyville Community College hosted speaker Dan Meers on Tuesday, August 12th, in the Spencer / Rounds Theatre as part of the annual in-service activities. Meers was the featured speaker for CCC employees as the College kicked off its 103rd year. Dan went to work each day like many other men, dressed in a suit. The only difference was that instead of wearing a tie with his suit, Dan wore a tail. You see, Dan had an unusual occupation; he was a professional mascot.
For the past 32 years, Dan has served as KC Wolf, the mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs football team. Dan averaged more than 350 speaking appearances each year and traveled throughout the US and around the world entertaining fans of all ages. “Several CCC employees had the opportunity to hear Dan speak last year and felt his life-changing message was beneficial and inspiring for our employees,” said Dr. Marlon Thornburg,
President of CCC.
In 2006, Dan became the 1st NFL mascot inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.
When he began his career with the Chiefs back in 1990, Dan never dreamed he would still be wearing the costume three decades later, but as Dan’s wife liked to say... “Old mascots never die, they just SMELL LIKE IT!”
The College invited USD 445, USD 436, and Tyro Christian School employees, the Chamber, Leadership Coffeyville, CRMC, and City leadership to participate in the speaking event as well.
