Coffeyville, KS – Coffeyville Community College held a Suicide Prevention and Awareness Event on Wednesday, September 24, bringing students, faculty, staff, and community members together for an evening of connection, education, and hope.

The event featured impactful presentations from Lori Barnes (NAMI Kansas), Timothy Henry (NAMI South Central Kansas), and Rachael Miles (Four County Mental Health Center). Each speaker shared personal experiences and professional insights, emphasizing the importance of breaking stigma, fostering conversations, and building support systems for those impacted by suicide and mental health challenges.

Attendees included the Red Raven Men’s Baseball Team, who showed strong support by attending as a group. Suicide prevention holds deep meaning for the program, as the team continues to honor the memory of former player Conner Taylor (2016), who tragically died by suicide. In his memory, Raven Baseball has dedicated itself to raising awareness and ensuring their teammates and community know that no one has to face life alone.

Coffeyville Community College thanks Four County Mental Health Center and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) for their partnership in making the event possible.

Students are reminded that support is always available through CCC Counselor Megan Brown’s office, and anyone in crisis can call or text 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Together, we can continue to shine a light on suicide prevention, spread awareness, and strengthen the message: you are never alone.
