Coffeyville, KS — Coffeyville Community College (CCC) brought energy, excitement, and support to campus with its recent “Over the Hump Midweek Bash,” held on April 1st as a Hump Day-themed event designed to help students stay on track as the spring semester winds down.
And no—this was not an April Fool's joke. Students really did get to ride camels as part of the celebration, turning an ordinary Wednesday into a memorable campus experience. The camels were provided by camel vendor, Camels Unlimited, adding a unique and engaging element to the event.
The event featured the unexpected campus appearance of live camels, giving students a fun and lighthearted way to “get over the hump” of the week. But beyond the novelty, the Midweek Bash served a greater purpose: connecting students with essential resources and helping them prepare for the end of the semester.
Throughout the event, multiple campus departments came together to support students, including Student Life, Financial Aid, the Business Office, Student Success, Admissions, Student Health Services, Advising, and many more. Staff were available to assist students with important administrative tasks such as paying tuition balances, reviewing financial aid, completing graduation applications, and checking academic standing. Students also had access to information on campus resources, including health and mental health services, ensuring they are supported both inside and outside the classroom.
The event saw strong student engagement, with an estimated 175 participants taking part throughout the day.
“Our Over the Hump day event was a great opportunity to take a break, reconnect with student services, student success, and reenergize as we head into the final stretch of the semester,” said Ryan McCune, Vice President for Student Services.
By combining entertainment with hands-on support, the event encouraged students to take proactive steps toward their academic goals while fostering a stronger sense of community on campus.
As the semester progresses, CCC remains committed to providing opportunities that promote student success, engagement, and well-being—helping every student cross the finish line with confidence.
