CCC Students Support Seniors in Hands-On Technology Workshop

Coffeyville, KS — Coffeyville Community College (CCC) recently hosted a Technology for Seniors workshop, providing local community members with the opportunity to build confidence and skills using everyday technology. The session was led by Brandi Beeson, with assistance from student volunteers who offered hands-on, one-on-one support.

Held on March 27, the free community class focused on practical skills such as navigating mobile phones, using email, and engaging with social media platforms like Facebook. Participants were encouraged to bring their own devices and questions, creating a personalized and interactive learning experience.

Student volunteers played a key role in the success of the workshop, working directly with attendees to troubleshoot issues and provide guidance. Their familiarity with technology allowed them to address a wide range of questions and help participants feel more comfortable using digital tools in their daily lives.

“I think this event was a great opportunity for our students to connect with the local community in a really cool way. As our students grew up in a very technology-driven world, they were extremely knowledgeable in the areas where our community members needed help. The students were able to answer tons of questions for the community members and were able to work with them one-on-one to help solve their problems. It gave the students a chance to be able to flip the script and be a teacher themselves for a change,” said Beeson.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the students' patience and support.

While no future sessions are currently scheduled, Coffeyville Community College hopes to continue offering similar opportunities that connect students with the community while meeting local needs.
