Coffeyville, KS — Coffeyville Community College’s Spring Band and Choir Concert filled the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on April 23, drawing more than 200 attendees for a standout evening of live music.
The evening featured performances by the CCC Concert Choir and Jazz Band under the direction of Choir Director Kristi Reedy and Band Director Aaron Burke. Audience members enjoyed a wide variety of musical selections that showcased the talent and versatility of CCC student performers.
Concert Choir selections included "When Will I Be Loved," "Carry the Light," "Shining Like the Moon," "Light of a Clear Blue Morning," and "Fly Me to the Moon." The Jazz Band performed favorites including "Don’t Get Around Much Anymore," "Son of the Chicken," "Malaguena," and "13 O’Clock Jump."
Student musicians were also recognized during the concert, with graduating performers honored for their contributions to the music program.
CCC President Dr. Marlon Thornburg praised the event and those involved in making it a success.
“Just a quick shout out to Kristi Reedy and Aaron Burke on a wonderful Band and Choir Concert last night in Spencer Rounds,” said Thornburg. “They had the largest crowd at a concert in many years. The music selections were spot on for the audience and the students. Great job last night!”
Cari Redden, Vice President for Academic Services, also commended the students and directors.
“Seeing such a large audience was exciting and well deserved,” said Redden. “Our students and directors delivered an outstanding performance that reflected the hard work, talent, and dedication they have shown throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of all they accomplished.”
Burke expressed appreciation for the support shown by the campus and community.
“We’ve come a long way in a year, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for the Music Department,” Burke said. “It’s great to be in a community that very clearly supports the Fine Arts.”
Reedy also reflected on her first year leading the choir program.
“I’m very proud of my choir and what we have accomplished this year,” Reedy said. “I am very fortunate to have Mr. Aaron Burke to work with. He makes our combined efforts as a department and for performance a breeze.”
The concert highlighted the continued growth and momentum of CCC’s Fine Arts programs, with strong community attendance and enthusiastic support for student performers.
