COFFEYVILLE, KS — Coffeyville Community College recently had the honor of welcoming members of the Kansas Board of Regents, the Presidents and Chief Executive Officers of Kansas’ public universities and their staff, and Kansas Board of Regents staff to campus for a multi-day visit showcasing CCC and the Coffeyville community.
The visit brought together the seven university CEOs and members of the Kansas Board of Regents, providing CCC with a unique opportunity to showcase its campus, culture, and the community of Coffeyville to leaders from across the state.
“We were pleased to welcome these higher education leaders to Coffeyville and give them the opportunity to experience our college and our community firsthand,” said CCC President Dr. Marlon Thornburg. “It was exciting to hear their positive comments about our campus, our facilities, our food service, and the many things Coffeyville has to offer.”
During their time in Coffeyville, guests experienced CCC’s campus facilities and amenities, enjoyed meals prepared and served through the college’s food service, and visited several of the community’s historic attractions.
Guests dined and toured at the historic Brown Mansion. On Thursday morning, Dr. Thornburg and Darla Thornburg, a CCC faculty member and president of the Coffeyville Historical Society, personally guided Kansas State University President Dr. Richard Linton and members of his staff through the Dalton Museum and Condon Bank.
The community tours offered visitors an opportunity to experience Coffeyville’s unique history and learn more about the community beyond the college campus.
“Many of them were surprised by our campus location and the amenities available right around us, as well as the rich history of Coffeyville,” Thornburg said. “Almost all of them had never been to Coffeyville, and only a few had driven through. They were thoroughly impressed with our community.”
The visit also provided an opportunity for CCC leadership to connect with higher education leaders from throughout Kansas and strengthen relationships with the Kansas Board of Regents and the state’s public universities.
“This was a tremendous opportunity for Coffeyville Community College and our community,” Thornburg said. “To have the seven university CEOs, the Board of Regents, and their staff here with us was both a privilege and an honor. We are proud of our college, proud of our community and grateful that we were able to share both with them.”
Thornburg also recognized the CCC employees who helped coordinate and host the event, including Kim, Bob,
Melissa, Toby and Cathy, for their extensive work and planning.
The Kansas Board of Regents governs the state’s public universities and coordinates community colleges and technical colleges. The visit provided CCC with a valuable opportunity to welcome state higher education leaders to campus and highlight the College’s role in serving students, employers, and the Coffeyville community.
