COFFEYVILLE, KS — Coffeyville Community College’s Humanities Program will welcome guitarist, singer, and historian Andy Cohen for a FREE community performance at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre.
Cohen has spent decades studying, performing, and preserving the traditional music of the American South. His love of folk and blues began as a teenager after discovering artists such as Big Bill Broonzy and Reverend Gary Davis.
Throughout his career, Cohen has developed a particular focus on country blues, Memphis blues, gospel, and spirituals. His work combines performance with a deep appreciation for the history and cultural traditions behind the music.
In addition to performing, Cohen is a respected teacher and advocate for traditional musicians. He has organized festivals, supported emerging artists, and created performances honoring the music and legacy of Reverend Gary Davis.
Cohen’s CCC performance will explore the rich traditions of country blues, Memphis blues, gospel, folk, and other forms of traditional American music.
The performance is part of CCC’s ongoing Humanities Program, which introduces audiences to artists who preserve and celebrate diverse cultural and artistic traditions. All Humanities Program performances are FREE and open to the community.
