Troops in Afghanistan need our help and Coffeyville Community College will assist in collecting requested items at the season opening football game on August 28 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Coffeyville will host Tyler, Texas in the opener with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The items will be shipped to Staff Sergeant Nick Wisely who is serving in Afghanistan with the 502 Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. Nick is the son of Jennifer Woodward who works for Coffeyville Resources. Nick has asked if the community can make small, but extremely meaningful donations to his company serving in Afghanistan. Items requested include: individual serving powder drinks such as Kool-Aid, Gatorade, or Crystal Light; baby wipes; deodorant; razors; shaving cream (no aerosol); chapstick; sunscreen; aloe vera; bar soap with travel container; toothbrushes; toothpaste; floss; nail clippers; hair clippers; cotton balls; q-tips; travel sized Kleenex and toilet paper; face wipes; vitamins; cold medicine (cough drops, Benadryl, Tylenol Cold, Tussin, etc.); allergy medicine; eye drops; nasal spray; lotion (tube only, no pump); foot powder/baby powder; icy hot patches/tiger balm; aspirin; FeBreze air freshener; batteries (AA and AAA); flea collars (the sand fleas are terrible, so the troops wear them around their ankles and wrist); flea and tick spray; any food items that have shelf life and are already package (chips, beef jerky, easy mac, ramen noodles, chewing gum, hard candy, suckers, power bars, cereal bars, trail mix, etc.); Neosporin; band aids, cortisone cream, boot socks, envelopes, paper note pads, and pens. For idle time and huge morale boosters, items requested include: yo-yo’s; slinkies, stress balls, throw blankets (no more than $10), travel size pillows, $1 picture books/photo albums (for personal pictures); water guns/squirt guns; deck of cards; dice; magazines (outdoors-fishing, hunting, ATV, sports, car/truck); paperback books (western, crime, mystery, etc.); music (CDs); handheld electronic games (toy section-poker, solitaire, should be under $10), football (any kind – foam, rubber); Nerf basketball net, crosswords, Sudoku, word search, mad libs. Two items not needed are stamps and calling cards. Fans donating items of need to troops serving in Afghanistan will receive a raffle ticket for a Red Raven gift basket. Items in the gift basket include a $25 gift certificate to the CCC Bookstore, Red Raven t-shirts, water bottles, playing cards, tickets to the three remaining home football games, tickets to the Wizard of Oz musical, a Red Raven car magnet, and a Red Raven license plate. The automotive service program at the CCC Technical Campus is providing two oil changes, two battery charging systems, and two brake inspection certificates.
