Two Phi Theta Kappa members from Coffeyville Community College were among the fifty-six community college students recognized as members of the 21st annual Kansas All-State Academic Team.

CCC sophomores Colter Comstock of Caney, Kansas, and Reina Garcia from Topeka, were selected on the basis of their scholastic achievement, leadership provided to Phi Theta Kappa, the campus and community as well as their service addressing community needs. All-Kansas Academic Team members were recognized at a luncheon at the downtown Ramada in Topeka, February 11. Also in attendance were family members of the honored students as well as community college administrators from across the state, Phi Theta Kappa advisors and Kansas legislators. Each honoree received a medallion, check, and certificate.

A special highlight of this year’s celebration was a keynote address presented by the new CEO and President of Phi Theta Kappa, Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner from Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Tincher-Ladner joined the Phi Theta Kappa staff in 2012 as the Chief Information and Research Officer, and later served as Interim Executive Director until receiving the permanent appointment in 2016 by the Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors.

Brian Inbody, Neosho County Community College President presented the program’s welcome while Linda Fund, Executive Director of the Kansas Association of Community College Trustees, introduced the distinguished guests. Ms. Tammy Fuentez, Kansas Regional Coordinator of Phi Theta Kappa, introduced the Phi Theta Kappa Honorees. President Inbody closed the meeting with words of appreciation. Colter Comstock, CCC December graduate and current Oklahoma State University student, was represented at the event by his mother, Mrs. Ginger Comstock, and his grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Fitchel.
