Eta Gamma Officers Attend Defending the American Dream Summit

Five representatives of the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa departed Coffeyville Community College at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, August 20 for Columbus, Ohio and the Defending the American Dream Summit.  The summit officially began on Friday, August 21, with breakout sessions.  Session one focused on such things as energy policy with panelist David Wright of the Edison Electric Institute and various policy issues on Capitol Hill. 

Session two focused upon opportunities in a free-market economy while session three encouraged attendees to make their view points know by contacting their legislators.  Saturday's breakout sessions highlighted "Building Bridges into Communities" and "Work Till You're Dead," a frank discussion with Dave Ramsey's retirement expert, Chris Hogan and Levi Russell, Director of Public Affairs, focusing upon "Hearts and Minds - Making the Moral Case for Freedom." 

Other breakout sessions addressed such topics as ObamaCare, school choice, and right to work.  On Friday evening, the Eta Gamma members were treated to the Buckeye Bash at the Park Street Patio followed by dinner at Barley's Brewing Company.

While at the summit, members had the opportunity to hear several outstanding speakers including:  Governors Jeb Bush, Bobby Jindal, and Rick Perry; Senators David Perdue, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rob Portman; Representatives Jim Jordan, Jose Oliva, and Brad Wenstrup.  Also presenting were Jim Taffer, Host of Spike TV's Bar Rescue, and Nick Norris CEO and Founder, Predator Warpaint. 

Eta Gamma Officers Rayanndra Garoutte, Athena Phifer, and Evalyse Azura received AFP Scholarships to attend the summit.  Also attending were chapter advisor Linda McFate and honorary member, Charles McFate.
