Program Description

The Plumbing Technology program prepares individuals to practice as licensed plumbers by applying technical knowledge and skills to lay out, assemble, install, and maintain piping fixtures and systems for steam, natural gas, oil, hot water, heating, cooling, drainage, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems in home and business environments. Includes instruction in source determination, water distribution, water removal, pressure adjustment, basic physics, technical mathematics, blueprint reading, pipe installation, pumps, welding and soldering, plumbing inspection, and applicable codes and standards.

Program Goals

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1.  Select, arrange and install appropriate piping materials (plastic, copper, cast iron, carbon steel) based on their properties and application within plumbing systems.
2.  Accurately identify and calculate pipe angles, basic offsets, and parallel offsets in pipe runs (plastic, copper, cast iron, carbon steel).
3.  Demonstrate proficiency in the installation, testing, and maintenance of:
     * Piping systems: including DWV, Potable water, Combustible gas and related components.
     * Plumbing fixtures: faucets, fixtures and water heaters.
4.  Effectively interpret and utilize commercial plumbing drawings.
