Dr. Marlon Thornburg holds a Doctorate of Education from Walden University and Masters and Bachelor degrees from Fort Hays State University.  He is a graduate of the Kansas Community College Leadership Institute (KCCLI) and a 1996 graduate of Leadership Coffeyville.  Dr. Thornburg is currently employed as the President at Coffeyville Community College (CCC).  He has served Coffeyville Community College for over 30 years in various capacities including adult education, advising, continuing education, distance learning, financial aid, instruction, institutional research, IT, recruiting, registration, student services, and Career & Technical Education (CTE).  Dr. Thornburg’s dissertation topic was Perceptions of Career and Technical Education by High School Career Counselors.  The study examined how High School Career Counselors in the state of Kansas perceived CTE education in the state and whether their perceptions influenced a student’s career choice.

Dr. Thornburg currently serves on the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation Board, the Coffeyville Public School Foundation Board, and the CVR Energy Community Advisory Panel.  He has been recognized as the Citizen of the Year and Educator of the Year by the Coffeyville Area Chamber of Commerce for his work with education and community organizations.  He also received the Phi Theta Kappa Administrator of Distinction Award and the SkillsUSA Postsecondary Administrator of the Year Award for Kansas in 2018.  He has coached City Recreation baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer teams for over 14 years.  He continues to assist area non-profit organizations with community service projects by utilizing the skills and expertise available in the CCC Career and Technical Education programs.  These activities provide a valuable service learning experience for CTE program students.  He is also a volunteer for the Coffeyville Historical Society at the Brown Mansion.
