The Honors Program at Coffeyville Community College is excited to announce a one-day leadership conference for high school students in southeast Kansas. The conference aims to inspire and educate high school students on leadership opportunities in college, providing valuable insights and experiences from current campus leaders.
Campus faculty and area business and community leaders will hold student workshops focusing on particular leadership areas. Additionally, CCC student leaders will hold a round-table session highlighting the benefits and opportunities for leadership on college campuses.

Keynote Speaker

Darrel Harbaugh
Darrel Harbaugh, a Coffeyville native, graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School and Coffeyville Community Junior College. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Theater Education from Kansas State University and taught for 34 years at his alma mater after starting his career in Manhattan, Kansas. Darrel also earned a master’s degree in Speech and Theatre from Pittsburg State University.
As a debate and forensic coach, Darrel led Field Kindley High School students to numerous victories, including five Kansas State Policy Debate Championships, four Kansas State Lincoln Douglas Debate Championships, and four State Individual Speech Championships. Additionally, 76 students attended the National Speech and Debate National Championships, achieving national finalist positions in various categories. He mentored 12 NSDA All-Americans during his tenure.
Darrel has been honored with inductions into prestigious halls of fame, including the NSDA Coaches Hall of Fame and the Kansas Speech Communications Association Hall of Fame. He received the National Federation of High School’s Outstanding Speech, Debate & Theatre Educator Award.
n retirement, Darrel serves his community as a member of the USD #445 School Board and holds leadership positions in various organizations, including the Coffeyville Lions Club. Additionally, he contributed to local theaters as a projectionist during summers from 1980 to 2000.
