Performing in a range of configurations from acoustic duo to eight piece band, Music in Common is a genre-bending collective that creatively blends Americana, Hip-Hop, and Soul. This October brings a trio configuration, with vibrant sounds by Todd Mack, Trey Carlisle, and Bree Nicola.
Since 2005, they have been creating impactful communities of connection between artist and audience and audience with each other. From house concerts to colleges, performing arts centers, and large festival stages, MIC has performed for thousands of people in more than 400 communities worldwide. A nonprofit organization, Music in Common has worked extensively throughout the U.S. Middle East, and Far East curating experiences for people across divides to find common ground through music and facilitated conversation. Culling from the nearly 100 songs that have come out of these programs, MIC performances leave audiences inspired, hopeful, and connected.
OUR HISTORY
In October 2005, singer-songwriter / producer, Todd Mack, organized a backyard birthday jam to honor his friend and band mate, Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter abducted and murdered by extremists in Pakistan in 2002. Danny was a classically trained violinist, bluegrass fiddler and mandolin player who harnessed his musical gifts to connect with people wherever he traveled. His horrific murder was a call to action for Todd to combat and prevent the acts of hate that took his friend's life. That backyard jam - FODfest (Friends of Danny Festival) - quickly grew to become Music In Common, an international non-profit organization with innovative programs to help communities in or at risk of conflict find common ground through facilitated discussion and music.
Trey Carlisle is a Music in Common youth alumnus who came up through the ranks from program participant in 2016 to program coordinator and a lead facilitator. A 2020 Fulbright Award recipient, devoted artivist, and 2020 graduate of Soka University, Trey is passionate about advancing peace and social justice through music, dance and filmmaking.
