COVID-19: Frequently Asked Questions for Students

February 18, 2021

Where do I go if I do not feel well?

CCC provides free basic health services through the Student Health Nurse (lower level of the Student Union).  The school nurse is available from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Where can I get tested for COVID-19?

CCC will test students who are exhibiting symptoms for FREE.  COVID-19 rapid testing is available on campus from the Student Health Nurse (lower level of the Student Union).  Test results are normally received within one hour.

The State of Kansas also provides FREE testing in the circle drive at the west end of the Student Union.  Test results take between 48 – 96 hours.

Students may also go to any local healthcare clinic for testing at their own expense.

What do I do if I’m exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19?

If you were exposed on or off campus, please contact the Student Health Nurse for guidance.  You will need to self-quarantine for the KDHE required period as follows:

  • 10 complete days after your last contact with the case with no symptoms or;
  • 7 days with no symptoms and a negative PCR test result.  Test result documentation must be submitted to the Student Health Nurse or the healthcare provider of your choice.
  • Learn more about the COVID-19 Quarantine Periods (Kansas Department of Health Website, opens in new window, PDF document).

NOTE:  KDHE recommends all exposed people should self-monitor for fourteen (14) days from exposure and contact a healthcare professional if symptoms develop.  The disease can still develop through day 14.

You are a "close contact" if any of the following situations happened while you spent time with a person with COVID-19, even if they didn't have symptoms:

  • Were within six (6) feet of the person for 10 consecutive minutes or more,
  • Had contact with the person's respiratory secretions (e.g. coughed or sneezed on; kissed; contact with a dirty tissue; shared a drinking glass, food, towels, or other personal items).
  • Live with the person or stayed overnight for at least one night in a house with the person.

What do I do if I test positive for COVID-19?

If you test positive for COVID-19 on or off campus, please contact the Student Health Nurse for guidance.  You will need to self-isolate for the following:

  • 10 complete days since symptoms first appeared and;
  • 72 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and;
  • Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving

NOTE:  Once you are positive, you ARE positive and there is no 7-day option. The 7-day option is only for those who may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Per CCC procedure all persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed to COVID-19 are to be cleared by the healthcare provider of their choice or the Student Health Nurse before attending CCC classes, events, or participating in athletics. If another healthcare provider is chosen documentation should be submitted to the CCC Student Health Clinic.

What if I self-quarantine for 7 days and my PCR test is positive?

If you take the PCR test and you test positive for COVID-19 on or off campus, please contact the Student Health Nurse for guidance.  You will need to self-isolate for the following:

  • 10 complete days since symptoms first appeared and;
  • 72 hours with no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and;
  • Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving.

NOTE:  Once you are positive, you ARE positive and there is no 7-day option. The 7-day option is only for those who may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

If I am self-quarantined (exposed) or self-isolated (positive cases) what are my options?

Option 1:  If you are a residence hall student you will need to go into self-quarantine or self-isolation in the designated area in the Residence Halls.   If you are an off-campus student you will need to self-quarantine or self-isolate at home.

Option 2:  Residence Hall students may opt to self-quarantine or self-isolate at their home residence for the required period.  To self-quarantine or self-isolate at home a student will contact the Student Health Nurse, fill out a form, and make arrangements for their classes with the Vice President for Academics ([email protected]) prior to leaving campus.

Who do I call if I need someone to talk to for my mental well-being?
